![]() ![]() I highly recommend the Outdoor Research Uberlayer Hooded Jacket for anyone looking for a mid/outer layer that keeps you warm like down, but breathes far more effectively especially when you start moving. I’ve also found myself wearing it around town sort of as a throw-on sweater before I head out the door to do errands and take care of life’s less adventurous requirements. I also plan to keep wearing this jacket as spring rolls in and ski season gives way to climbing season. ![]() In order to effectively test the Outdoor Research Uberlayer Hooded Jacket I’ve been wearing it as a mid layer while skiing at the resort as well as a mid / outer layer on ski touring days over the past few months. I feel that Polartec Alpha is by far the best insulation for your money, especially when you consider its weight to warmth ratio. I’m happy to see OR starting to use Alpha insulation in more of their 2015/16 products, such as the Uberlayer and the new Deviator Hoody. You’ll be amazed at how little insulation is actually in the Uberlayer Hooded Jacket, and just how warm it keeps you. I can’t say enough good things about the Primaloft® Alpha insulation: it’s super light, packable, and warm. While the Super Layer Jacket is still for sale on the OR website, it has been heavily discounted could its days be numbered? I suspect this has something to do with the fact that the Uberlayer (in my opinion) is a far superior jacket. The Outdoor Research Uberlayer Hooded Jacket is worthy of its name and a welcome improvement over the previous Outdoor Research Super Layer Jacket I reviewed. This is a small but important feature of the Outdoor Research Uberlayer Hooded Jacket that is barely noticeable, but would be sorely missed if absent. These slide panels are breathable, just not as breathable as the rest of the interior liner. With the addition of glide panels in the arms and shoulders, you can rest assured that the sleeves of the jacket (or your base layer) won’t ride up your arms when putting on the Uberlayer. While this is ideal next to skin, it does tend to create friction with other fabrics. What are ‘glide panels’ you might ask? Well, in order to ensure the Uberlayer is as breathable and comfortable as possible, the interior is made up of a soft, micro-perforated material. My second favourite feature, one that will probably go unnoticed by most, are the interior glide panels located in the shoulder and arms. And one Napoleon pocket for your cell phone, wallet, or limp balm. While these are the only pockets on the inside of the Uberlayer, there are three more on the outside: Two hand warmer pockets placed high enough to stay out of the way of pack straps and harnesses. While most people may use these pockets for other purposes, it’s a good idea to consider keeping your skins warm inside your jacket on the ski down This way the glue remains tacky and ready for sticking to your skis for the climb back up. The Outdoor Research Uberlayer Hooded Jacket comes complete with a long list of features My favourite being the two internal ‘Shove-It’ pockets which are designed to accommodate a pair of skins (one skin per pocket). This is the single jacket you can count on to keep you warm on those active adventures in the mountains, but it also doubles as an outer layer around town or on fair weather days. While the Uberlayer is incredibly breathable, it will also shed a light rain and buff moderate winds but you don’t want to rely on it to repel heavy storms. It’s a trim fit, so it can be worn under a shell on colder days or as an outer layer on days without excessive snow, wind or rain. It’s ideal for belaying a climber, or as a mid layer while ski touring. The Uberlayer is designed to keep you warm while you’re stationary, and release excess heat when you’re active. This is in an active insulation piece (as is the Super Layer), hence the use of the incredibly warm Polartec Alpha Insulation, and breathable 100% nylon 30D stretch woven shell. ![]() With improved styling, a hood, and Polartec Alpha Insulation rather than the Primaloft Hi-Loft Silver Insulation found in the Super Layer Jacket, the new Uberlayer Hooded Jacket is a welcome improvement. This season, the good folks at Outdoor Research (OR) have upped the ante considerably and released the Uberlayer Hooded Jacket. Outdoor Research’s Super Layer goes Uber! Two years ago we reviewed the Outdoor Research Super Layer Jacket, to moderate fanfare. ![]() ![]() also allows players to issue orders to their squadron, making this system as iconic to HAWX as the Cross-Com system is to Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Your experience may be different, but I think that going out to GTNP a few times and getting a sense for the backcountry of the park and the surrounding area during early summer was a good introduction to the area for us, and it allowed us to then set aside a few trips for purely hiking and backpacking in late August to check off those other boxes.Starting from Leigh Lake Trailhead, head west on Leigh Lake Trailhead Connector, then head immediately north onto String Lake Trail. You shouldn't have trouble with Amphitheater Lake in July either. We tried for the Paintbrush/Cascade loop one year and had to settle for a Holly Lake out and back, and tried for Static Peak divide another time and had to settle for Albright Peak, but they were still incredible hiking days and none of us felt too upset about not having to turn. The first few years that I went out to GTNP we went over the 4th of July week and, while we couldn't "finish" certain hikes, they were still great days of hiking. However, there's a ton of great hiking and there's nothing stopping you from starting those hikes and stopping when you reach an impasse. If checking those boxes is a must, then later in the summer is a better bet. The Paintbrush Divide-Cascade Canyon Loop visits spectacular alpine terrain in the heart of Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park, with jaw-dropping views of soaring mountains and explosive displays of wildflowers in midsummer that make this one of the better hikes on the continent. So the solution is to shrink the rootfs partition of your microSD card down to a size that’s just a little bit bigger than the amount of used space. If you don’t shrink the rootfs partition, you will end up copying all 64GB over to your external drive, which will take a lot more time to complete and will require that you have at least 65GB of free space. What’s particularly frustrating is that, by default, the dd file copy process makes an image out of ALL the space on your microSD card, even the unused space. For example, you might have a 64GB microSD card, but only be actually using 6GB of space. img.gz file you create in the tutorial above should be much smaller than your source card, you still need enough space to accommodate the uncompressed. If you want to make a disk image of a microSD card, but don’t have an external USB drive of a greater capacity, you have a problem. How to Shrink a Partition on Raspberry Pi You can copy this file to your PC, upload it to the cloud or send it to a friend. This process will also take several minutes but, when it is done, you will end up with a reasonably sized image file called. sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=/myimg.img bs=1M count=7000 The amount of data is equal to count * block size (bs) so 7000 * 1M means 7GB. So, to be on the safe side (better to copy too much data than too little), we rounded up and set dd to copy 7GB of data by using count=7000. For example, in our case, we had had a 16GB card, but after shrinking the rootfs down to 6.5GB, the card only had about 6.8GB in use (when you count the /boot partition). However, if you shrank a partition on the source microSD card, you’ll need to use the count attribute to tell it to copy only as many MBs as are in use. sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=/myimg.img bs=1M Copy all your data to an img file by using the dd command. However, you can’t and shouldn’t do that if it’s already mounted.ĥ. If your drive isn’t mounted, try rebooting with the USB drive connected or you can mount it manually by typing sudo mkdir /dev/mysub to create a directory and sudo mount /dev/sda1 /dev/myusb to mount it. Your USB drive will probably be mounted at /media/pi/. The system automatically deletes the resource when its process terminates, however, calling the appropriate function saves memory and decreases the size of the process's working set. You’ll see a list of drives connected to the Raspberry Pi and the mount point name of each. When you are finished using the resource, you can release its associated memory by calling one of the functions in the following table. To get extended error information, call GetLastError. If the function fails, the return value is NULL. If the function succeeds, the return value is the handle to the newly created image. If the resource contains multiple images, the function uses the size of the first image. ![]() If this flag is not specified and cxDesired and cyDesired are set to zero, the function uses the actual resource size. Uses the width or height specified by the system metric values for cursors or icons, if the cxDesired or cyDesired values are set to zero. This flag is only valid if uType is IMAGE_BITMAP. Otherwise, the bitmap image is created as a device-dependent bitmap. ![]() If this is set and a new bitmap is created, the bitmap is created as a DIB section. This will succeed only if hImage was loaded by LoadIcon or LoadCursor, or by LoadImage with the LR_SHARED flag. If this flag is set, CopyImage uses the size in the resource file closest to the desired size. Without this flag, CopyImage stretches the original image to the new size. This is useful for creating a different-sized copy when the resource file contains multiple sizes of the resource.
